21 Sep - 2019

Press release September 2019 Add Health Media joins Per Båtelsson and Claes Dinkelspiel, among others, when they now go in and invest in Geras Solutions, whose stated goal is to change the lives of those suffering from dementia. In total, Add Health Media contributes 1.5 million to Geras Solutions, which is also investigating the possibility of launching its digital solution in expansive emerging markets, including China and Denmark. Geras Solutions has developed an easy-to-use digital dementia support in the form of a mobile health platform. The company’s CE-marked app consists of a clinically validated diagnostic tool that can detect cognitive impairment as well as telemedicine follow-up support with a specialist. The app also gives the user access to risk-reducing methods, based on the large international FINGER study, to prevent and delay deterioration of cognitive function through lifestyle changes. In addition to positive effects on dementia diseases, significant positive effects related to other chronic diseases are also seen. – Over 75 percent live with undiagnosed dementia globally and we believe that cognitive assessments with pen and paper are both subjective and slow and simply outdated. At the same time, the National Board of Health and Welfare states that in the next ten years, the number of people in Sweden living with some form of dementia will increase to 270,000 people. Even though Sweden offers a high standard in dementia care, we need new, better tools to meet the growing need where Geras Solutions comes into the picture, says Haza Newman, CEO of Geras Solutions. Via the AI-based tool Geras Solution App, thousands of data points are combined to create improved follow-up support for patients and healthcare professionals. A technology that, through streamlined and simplified tests, reduces time-consuming and uncertain processes and provides a clinically validated tool that helps specialists and healthcare professionals to focus on the patient. Miia Kivipelto is a professor of clinical geriatric epidemiology at the Department of Neurobiology, Caring Sciences and Society and studies the increasing incidence of dementia associated with an increasingly aging population. An important part of prof. Miia Kivipelto’s research is both early diagnosis and also finding methods to prevent or delay dementia. – New technology, such as AI and machine learning, can create improved opportunities in dementia care and also provide important data as a basis for us researchers. That is why it is important that technical solutions are included when discussing dementia, says Miia Kivepelto. Dementia can be seen as a global epidemic, says Haza Newman, and should not be underestimated as it can affect us all. – Everyone is affected, regardless of whether it is our loved ones, friends and acquaintances or ourselves. We now see a great opportunity to create a national and global collaboration between actors from the research world, the education sector, authorities, the pharmaceutical industry, investors, the healthcare sector and beyond. That is why I am expectant and grateful that a player like Add Health Media is now investing in Geras Solutions. We need all the help we can get in our mission to improve for the millions of people living with dementia today, states Haza Newman. Haza Newman is supported by Johan Bloom, business developer at Add Health Media. – We saw that Geras Solutions has put a solid amount of work into developing its app together with specialists in dementia, such as Professor Miia Kivipelto and neuropsychologist Göran Hagman. “The investment, which we made during the summer, we hope will lead to Geras Solutions now being able to help memory clinics and primary care to more effectively identify dementia patients early,” says Johan Bloom. About Geras Solutions Geras Solutions has a clear goal, “to change the lives of those affected by dementia”. By digitizing traditional methods in dementia care, one hopes to overcome the barriers that prevent many from understanding that they have dementia, and in the long run gain access to adequate care and care. They want to help millions of people around the world and work towards getting the global proportion who do not get their dementia diagnosed down from 75% to 0%.
